The Juilliard School
The premier music conservatory in the U.S., Juilliard also has renowned dance and drama divisions. There is a daily schedule of free music recitals during the academic year, open to the public. Additionally, Juilliard’s orchestra, drama division, opera company and dance company have a regular schedule of performances that are of professional quality, yet at moderate or no cost. Indeed, Juilliard’s student orchestra makes regular appearances at Carnegie Hall. The Pre-College Division also has an excellent orchestra. www.juilliard.edu
The Manhattan School of Music
Occupying Juilliard’s former site near Columbia University, the Manhattan School of Music is the other major music conservatory in the city, with its own extensive schedule of excellent but inexpensive (or free) student performances. www.msmnyc.edu
