AMSTERDAM TRANSPORTATION TIPS
(EuropeHotels.com)
Trains,
Trams and Underground
Amsterdam Central Station is a major
hub for trains and trams. Trams run until just past midnight (12:15 a.m).
Click metro
map for an overview. You might wish to invest in the discount card
known as
"I
amsterdam” card
(previously known as 'Amsterdam pass'), a discount card which gives you free
transit within the city, free canal boat tour, and free access to several
museums. You also receive a 50% discount on P+R parking. The price
is 38 Euros for 24 hours, 48 Euros for 48 hours, and 58 Euros for 72 hours.
Since Amsterdam is a highly walkable city (filled with scenic spots at every
turn), you might want to discover the city mostly on foot.
Traveling by
Bus, Taxi, Car or Bike
Buses travel primarily to outlying
suburbs, useful when trams are less frequent. You can also catch a
night bus
from midnight to early morning (7 a.m.). Their routes connect with
Leidseplein, Rembrandtplein and the Central Station.
To call a city taxi, dial 0900.677.7777. Expect to pay
€1.80 per km regardless of the time of day, and a 5%-10% tip is appreciated.

Note that parking at Amsterdam's Centraal (train) station costs 3.4 Euros per
hour and 42.50 Euros per day.
Amsterdam is a bike-friendly city. There are several places for
tourists to rent bikes in the city.
