Museum in
Hartford, Connecticut
The Wadsworth Atheneum
Museum of Art is one of the outstanding midsize art museums in the
U.S. Located in Hartford’s business district, adjacent to I-91 and
I-84, it is a highly worthwhile stopover for travelers. Moreover, lunch in the Museum Café is a treat in itself.
Moderately priced, it compares favorably to top-rank stand-alone
restaurants, never mind to other museums’ dining options.
The Wadsworth’s permanent collection is wide-ranging, with oil
paintings and decorative arts being its particular strengths. Better
yet, nearly half the museum’s floor space is devoted to high-caliber
temporary exhibitions, encouraging repeat visits as these change. The
four shows running during our recent visit were equally engaging.
